Credit Unions of Wales launches new identity and website with focus on financial wellbeing

Credit Unions of Wales has unveiled a new identity and website, at a time when the cost of living crisis means more people need their services than ever.

The new branding builds on the work Credit Unions of Wales has achieved since launching its strategy and action plan ‘Building a Credit Union Nation’ in September 2020 and reflects the group’s commitment to work together to improve the financial wellbeing of people in Wales.

“From national digital marketing campaigns through to launching an all-Wales payroll savings brand, Moneyworks Wales, over the past 18 months Credit Unions of Wales has worked more closely than ever,” said CEO of Cardiff & Vale Credit Union Leanne Herberg.

“The momentum we have built since launching our ‘Building a Credit Union Nation’ strategy has strengthened that pledge to work together and, as importantly, with stakeholders to build access to affordable loans and ethical savings at a time when our services are most needed.”

As financial cooperatives, credit unions are owned by their members – the people who save or borrow with them. Having no external shareholders, credit unions put the needs of their members first.

The budgeting tools, built by experts at Moneyhelper, are an important addition to the site at a time when more people in Wales are squeezed financially and underpins Credit Unions of Wales’ commitment to financial education.

The website also creates a single place for people wanting to save or borrow with their local credit union in Wales. This feature means website visitors can instantly join or their nearest credit union online and start saving or access an affordable loan.

For those needing financial support or advice, a partner page directs people to the free help that’s available in Wales.

Claire Savage, policy officer for Credit Unions of Wales added: “In 2019 Credit Unions of Wales were awarded the Edward Filene ‘Cooperatives Being Cooperative’ Award and that ability to work collaboratively for the benefit of all has helped us navigate some difficult times during the pandemic.

“We hope the new website and refreshed branding and continued digital marketing will guide more people in Wales to access the affordable loans and ethical savings available through Credit Unions of Wales.”
